Speeding up a slow PC


It can be very frustrating to have a PC running verly slowly. You know that the PC was must faster when you first had it but over time the PC has slowed down. Opening programs, browsing the internet or managing your emails are taking longer to do.

We thought it might be of help to identify some areas that can help your computer to become fast again.

Before you do anything it may be advisable to consider making a backup of your computer. If you are using XP or Vista then use the System Restore program and make a restore point.

Remove UnWanted Programs

Sometime computers have programs installed that are no longer required. These programs can be using resources from the system that may be not visable to you. Uninstalling these programs can give the system back resources that can make it run faster. To remove software under XP go to Control Panel and click on Add/Remove Programs. To remove software under Vista go to Control Panel and click on Programs and Features.

Disk Cleanup

A simple but very useful tool, usually found by clicking on start, programs, accessories, system tools and then Disk Cleanup. The program will scan your disk and identify temporary files that the system no longer needs. If there has been a big buildup of these files then removing them will help your computer.

DeFrag

Over time your system will save data to different parts of the Disk. When the system wants this data it has to work harder to get it as it is located all over the disk. Usually found by clicking on start, programs, accessories, system tools and then Disk Defragmenter. The tool will gather all the data and ensure that it is located closer together reducung the load on the disk. This will give your system some resources back which will make your computer faster.
